Overview:
Mac Tools®, a division of The Stanley Works, is a distributor of high-quality professional tools and supplies used by automotive and aeronautical and marine technicians & mechanics. Mac Tools’ products are sold through 1,200 independent Distributors, each of which operates a mobile “store” in the form of a specialized delivery truck. The Distributors follow regular routes, taking their “store” to their customers.
Situation:
Mac Tools needed an exclusive credit solution for their Distributors to offer to their Customers. Without this solution, Mac Tools would be dependent on credit facilities of which they had no control. In order to work, it would be essential that the solution:
- Provide a complete credit outsourcing suite of services (underwriting, statement delivery, payment processing, collections, portfolio management, and customer service);
- Provide an instantaneous credit decision at the time of the application;
- Allow for an efficient mobile transaction process with a variety of input methods;
- Provide a robust real-time portal that would provide Distributors and Mac Tools corporate with up-to-date transaction, account balance and payment status information;
- Integrate with Mac Tools’ accounting software; and
- Be backed by a customer and distributor service team trained to quickly resolve problems and issues.
Mac Tools’ service offering is based on a foundation of outstanding customer service. Because Mac Tools brings their store to the technicians and mechanics, they never have to leave their place of business to purchase or replace tools and supplies. Essential in that business model is an efficient process. The only acceptable credit solution would allow the Distributor to quickly and accurately execute the entire sales process (from apply to buy) in a matter of minutes.
Results:
Within 180 days of being contracted by Mac Tools, GreenSky released the new Mac Card™ program, which successfully:
- Provided a fully-managed, outsourced credit solution;
- Facilitated instant approval/decline decisions on credit applications submitted via the telephone and internet;
- Seamlessly allowed for transaction entry on the Distributors’ existing point of sale system (neither the Distributors nor Mac Tools had to invest a single dollar in new equipment);
- Provided an online tool that the Distributors and Mac Tools could leverage to obtain transaction and account information;
- Integrated with the Mac Tools financial accounting enterprise systems; and
- Provided a level of service that was consistent with the Mac Tools’ tradition.
When the GreenSky product launched, the 1,200 Distributors were instantly able to transact with the over 16,000 existing Mac Card accounts. Since the launch, Mac Tools has added hundreds of new Mac Tools customers that pay using the credit of their Mac Card account.
